Imagine spending three weeks in the Mediterranean—waking up to sea views, wandering historic villages, and discovering hidden beaches at your own pace. A long stay in Malta offers the perfect blend of relaxation, culture, and European charm.

Why Choose a Long Stay in Malta?

Malta combines history, beaches, and culture in a compact island easy to explore. Highlights include ancient temples older than the pyramids, coastal cliffs, and charming fishing villages.

Best Things to Do During Your 3 Weeks in Malta

 Valletta historic centre

  • Stroll through the UNESCO-listed capital, where golden limestone buildings, ornate balconies, and narrow laneways open onto sweeping harbour views. Visit St. John’s Co-Cathedral with its rich Baroque interior and Caravaggio paintings, explore the Grandmaster’s Palace, and enjoy a coffee in one of the lively squares as you soak in centuries of history.

Blue Lagoon in Comino

  • Spend a blissful day at the famous Blue Lagoon, known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and dramatic rocky shoreline. Swim, snorkel, or simply relax on a boat or nearby rocks as you take in the dazzling colours of the sea. This is an ideal spot for sunbathing, leisurely swims, and capturing unforgettable photos of Malta’s natural beauty.

Gozo island day trip

  • Take a short ferry ride to Gozo, Malta’s greener and more tranquil sister island. Discover charming villages, the historic Citadel in Victoria, picturesque bays like Xlendi and Ramla, and impressive coastal rock formations. A day in Gozo offers a slower pace, scenic countryside, and a taste of authentic rural Maltese life.

Mdina “Silent City”

  • Step back in time in Mdina, the ancient walled city perched on a hilltop in the heart of Malta. Wander its quiet, narrow streets lined with noble palaces, admire panoramic views from the bastion walls, and feel the unique, peaceful atmosphere that earned it the name “Silent City.” Evening visits are especially atmospheric, with softly lit lanes and fewer crowds.

Dingli cliffs sunset

  • End your day at the dramatic Dingli Cliffs, the highest point in Malta, where sheer limestone walls plunge into the Mediterranean below. Watch the sun slowly dip into the sea, painting the sky in shades of pink, gold, and orange. It’s one of the most spectacular and serene sunset spots on the islands, perfect for reflection and breathtaking photos.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Q: How long should you stay in Malta?

A: For most travelers, 2–3 weeks is the ideal amount of time to stay in Malta. This allows you to experience the island at a relaxed pace rather than rushing through major attractions. During a longer stay, you can explore historic cities, enjoy beach days, and take day trips to nearby islands.

A three-week stay also makes it easy to visit Gozo, known for its slower pace and dramatic coastal landscapes, as well as the famous Blue Lagoon on Comino. With extra time, travelers can discover hidden coves, charming villages, and scenic walking trails while enjoying the laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle.

Longer stays are particularly popular for travelers who want to combine sightseeing with relaxation, enjoy local cuisine, and experience the culture beyond typical tourist visits.

A:Yes, Malta is an excellent destination for long stays in Europe. The island offers a unique combination of warm Mediterranean weather, rich history, beautiful coastlines, and a relaxed lifestyle that makes it easy to settle in for several weeks.

Because Malta is compact and easy to navigate, travelers can explore different regions without long travel times. Historic towns, seaside promenades, and scenic viewpoints are all within short driving distances, making it perfect for extended exploration.
